Match Format

Like many other darts competitions, sets decide a match in PDC World Championship matches. A set will consist of the best of five legs (the first player to win three). However, with PDC tournaments, if the match goes to a deciding set, someone must win by at least two clear legs of their opponent unless the set score goes to 5–5 when a sudden-death leg will be played. Also, throwing first is considered an advantage in a leg, so players alternate who throws first in each leg during the set.

The number of sets players need to win matches changes as the tournament progresses and will be covered later in this article.
