With the NBA and Stanley Cup finals both on hiatus Tuesday night, MLB has the national sporting spotlight to itself. That means a full slate of 15 games — which means a full slate of strikeout props from which to choose. Here are our best strikeout picks for today — and don’t forget to check out all of our MLB picks and use the best sportsbooks to place your action.

Best strikeout props and predictions for today: Tuesday, June 11

Zack Wheeler OVER 8 strikeouts (+134 at FanDuel)

Philadelphia Phillies right-hander Zack Wheeler currently is the decisive favorite to win the NL Cy Young because of his 7-3 record, 2.23 ERA, 0.96 WHIP and 3.5 strikeout-to-walk ratio — all for the team with the best record in baseball.

Wheeler also sports a stellar strikeout rate of 10.2 per nine innings (second highest of his career).

Lately, though, Wheeler’s put-away pitch has eluded him a bit — he’s fanned six batters or fewer in four of his last five starts. And since notching 10, eight, and eight strikeouts in his initial three outings, he’s cleared seven Ks just twice in his last seven.

So why wager on Wheeler to collect at least eight strikeouts Tuesday? Two reasons: He’s due, and he’s facing the Boston Red Sox, who have MLB’s second-highest strikeout rate (9.68 per nine innings). Just this past weekend, Boston hitters accumulated 41 strikeouts in four games against the White Sox.

Following an off day for both teams, bank on Wheeler fanning at least nine Red Sox hitters Tuesday night at Fenway Park.

Brady Singer UNDER 4.5 strikeouts (-144 at FanDuel)

Like his entire team, Kansas City Royals pitcher Brady Singer has enjoyed an outstanding (and surprising) start to the 2024 season. The right-hander is 4-2 with a 2.76 ERA heading into Tuesday’s home start against the Yankees. Singer’s strikeout numbers are solid, too — he’s averaging a tick over one whiff per inning.

When you check the game log, though, you’ll see that most of Singer’s best strikeout games have come against some of the league’s biggest free-swinging offenses.

He had 10 Ks against Minnesota, nine against Oakland, and six each against Detroit and Seattle. Those teams respectively rank 17th, 28th, 21st, and 30th in strikeout rate.

The Yankees, on the other hand? They have the eight-lowest whiff rate — and that’s after a gnarly weekend series against the hard-throwing Dodgers, who fanned 37 New York hitters in 27 innings.

The Yankees did a much better job making contact in Monday’s series opener in Kansas City, whiffing just six times in a 4-2 win. Bet on the Bronx Bombers to continue putting the ball in play Tuesday and send Singer to the showers early.

Paul Skenes UNDER 7.5 strikeouts (-115 at FanDuel)

Paul Skenes has been as good as advertised since the Pittsburgh Pirates elevated their 2023 No. 1 overall pick to the big leagues. Not only is he 3-0 with a 3.00 ERA, but the right-hander already has recorded 38 strikeouts in 27 innings.

In his most recent start, Skenes followed up a nine-strikeout effort against Detroit by mowing down eight Los Angeles Dodgers. Among the punch-out victims: Mookie Betts and Shohei Ohtani … twice each.

Yet we recommend fading Skenes in the strikeout department Tuesday night in St. Louis. One reason is the Dodgers worked the rookie sensation pretty good Wednesday, forcing him to throw 93 pitches to get 15 outs.

Also, the Cardinals’ offense has fared well this season against right-handed power pitchers. Among them: Houston’s Justin Verlander (4 Ks in 5 innings); Philadelphia’s Aaron Nola (6 Ks in 6⅓ innings in one start, 3 Ks in 6 innings in another); and the aforementioned Wheeler (5 Ks in 7 innings).

Beyond that, St. Louis only fanned five times in six innings against the Dodgers’ Tyler Glasnow (who leads MLB in total strikeouts) and six times in six innings against Chicago White Sox lefty Garrett Crochet (who leads MLB in strikeout rate).
