Alberta sports betting in 2026: What’s changing?

Alberta is on the verge of a major shift in its sports betting landscape. While online betting is currently limited to the government-run platform PlayAlberta and the offshore betting sites outlined in this guide, new legislation is set to open the market to private operators on July 13.

📜 Bill 48 and a regulated market

In late 2024, Alberta introduced Bill 48 (the iGaming Alberta Act), which lays the groundwork for a regulated, competitive online betting market. This model is expected to follow Ontario’s successful approach, allowing multiple licensed sportsbooks to operate legally in the province.

The Alberta Gaming, Liquor, and Cannabis Commission (AGLC) will serve as the regulator.

🚀 Expected launch timeline

The new market is anticipated to go live on July 13, 2026. Once implemented, Alberta residents should gain access to a wider range of legal betting sites, improved consumer protections, and more competitive offers.

🏆 Which sportsbooks could enter Alberta?

If Alberta follows Ontario’s model, major operators are likely to apply for licenses. The following have already been approved.

  • FanDuel
  • DraftKings
  • theScore Bet
  • BetMGM
  • Caesars
  • bet365

These brands already operate in other regulated markets and would bring stronger apps, more betting options, and better promotions for users in Alberta.

🌐 What about offshore sportsbooks?

Currently, many Alberta bettors use offshore sportsbooks, like the ones we'll highlight in this article. While these platforms are still accessible, a regulated market will:

  • Provide safer, locally licensed alternatives
  • Offer clearer consumer protections
  • Potentially reduce reliance on offshore sites over time

🔍 What this means for bettors

When the regulated market launches on July 13, players in Alberta can expect:

  • More choice between trusted, licensed sportsbooks
  • Better bonuses and ongoing promotions
  • Faster and more secure payment options
  • Stronger responsible gambling safeguards

Until then, AB bettors can access the best sports betting sites in Canada regulated internationally by trusted gambling bodies like the Malta Gaming Authority.

Top 5 Alberta sports betting sites

We have carefully tested all of the available Alberta sports betting apps and sites to provide you with a comprehensive list of the top five options in the province in 2026. These sportsbooks are great for betting on the NHL, NBA, and anything else you can think of, especially if you sign-up using one of our sportsbook promos.

1. Sports Interaction Sportsbook Alberta

Oddspedia opinion

Since its inception in 1997, Sports Interaction has become one of the top platforms for sports betting Alberta has to offer. Its most attractive element is its consistently low odds margins — in fact, the Alberta sportsbook often delivers NFL sides and totals with margins of under 5%. Similarly low margins can be found for most mainstream sports.

Who is Sports Interaction best for?

Sports Interaction reigns as the best Alberta sports betting site because it routinely offers excellent odds for select markets — a huge plus regardless of your experience level. If you plan to wager on a major sport like football, basketball, baseball, or hockey, few betting apps in the country can match up with SIA.

What users are saying about Sports Interaction

"So far so good. As a new user, great sign-up bonus and a great UX so far. Clean and easy to navigate app. As a soccer bettor, great options there with lots of lines. Sometimes, bookies don't have handicaps or small leagues available. Not the case here!" — Matthew, Google Play store reviewer

"It’s a pretty good app. Easy to use and has great odds. Looks fairly good, and withdraws and deposits come in fairly quick." — App Store reviewer

Why trust Oddspedia?

Since 2013, Oddspedia has delivered comprehensive and honest sportsbook reviews and insights to bettors. Trusted outlets, including the New York Post, The Times, and SBNation, have recognized our work.

Sports Interaction pros and cons

Where we think Sports Interaction excels Where we think Sports Interaction needs improvement
Low odds margins: A low odds margin means the sportsbook is taking a smaller commission on your bets. This results in you getting better odds, which, in turn, means that you will make more money when your bets win. Regular promotions: Sports Interaction isn’t known for offering a variety of promotions. While you can usually find a couple, the selection is limited. That said, the low odds margins more than make up for the lack of promos.
Live streaming: Even though SIA's live streaming feature simply provides a lot of entertainment, it is also a crucial tool for bettors placing wagers on in-play markets.  Withdrawal times: A 24-hour withdrawal time is pretty good. However, a lot of modern sportsbooks are significantly faster — many of them process withdrawals within an hour.
Betting markets: Sports Interaction offers great odds on all major sports and a solid selection of small-market options. The live and pregame menus are also stuffed with unique betting opportunities.

2. bet365 Sportsbook Alberta

Oddspedia opinion

bet365 is one of the most recognizable brands in sports betting. The betting app is licensed by multiple regulators, including the UK Gambling Commission, the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO), and about a dozen American states. As such, it is one of the safest and most trustworthy Alberta sports betting platforms around.

Who is bet365 best for?

When it comes to live betting and streaming, bet365 leads the way for all Alberta sports betting sites. Its dedicated section provides competitive odds, a wide range of sports, and smooth navigability. Plus, streaming exists for a number of popular sports, including basketball, soccer, and football.

What users are saying about bet365

"I really like using bet365, as it offers a wide variety of sports to bet on and has an abundant prop menu. One thing I really like with NBA props is the ‘milestones’ that allow you to bet beyond the Las Vegas line on various stats." — Francis, Google Play store reviewer

"I have to give credit where it’s due — bet365 and its team have created the best, unique, fastest and aesthetically pleasing sports betting application. The ball tracking and pitch animation features are excellent. The goal animation is also so much better than every other app out there. Things like this make a difference when you’re tracking a game, and the team you need scores a goal. It’s exciting and immersive, as betting should be. Well done to bet365 for creating the best sports betting app out there. This is the reason why it is my favorite bookmaker." —  MacAulay, App Store reviewer

bet365 pros and cons

Where we think bet365 excels Where we think bet365 needs improvement
Live betting and streaming: A full range of betting options and quality odds await in-play bettors. Plus, the sportsbook's smooth live-streaming feature ensures you're always on top of the action. Public perception: bet365 has been the subject of some negative publicity recently. The brand has also been accused of weaponizing the verification process to delay or refuse payouts.
Promotions: bet365 consistently offers a variety of sportsbook promos for both new and returning users, including parlays offers, bet-and-gets, and odds boosts. No VIP program: We would expect a major player like bet365 to reward loyal Alberta sports bettors through a VIP or loyalty program, but none exists at the moment.
Horse racing betting: bet365 covers horse races from all over the world. You can access various horse betting resources, including in-depth stats, expert picks, and horse racing promotions. The live-streaming feature only adds to the excitement here.

Oddspedia opinion

TonyBet has been around since 2003, although it was known as OmniBet until 2009. The sportsbook has earned licenses in several jurisdictions, including Kahnawake and Ontario. Being licensed in so many highly regulated markets demonstrates that TonyBet operates to the highest industry standards. On top of this, the platform offers impressive coverage of both traditional and esports markets.

Who is TonyBet best for?

TonyBet is ideal for novices looking to capitalize on tons of betting options. In particular, the online sportsbook boasts enormous soccer betting menus that routinely offer over 4,000 selections.

What users are saying about TonyBet

"TonyBet provides a good gaming experience overall. The site offers a broad range of games. The live casino section is particularly entertaining. However, I've experienced delays with withdrawals. Customer service is polite but can be slow. The bonuses are nice but have tough terms. The mobile app could use some enhancements. The desktop version works smoothly." — Donnie, Trust Pilot reviewer

"Decent experience overall. My experience with this platform has been decent. The site offers many games, which is great. The customer support is responsive. However, withdrawal times could be faster. The bonuses are good but come with high wagering requirements. — Burton, Trust Pilot reviewer

Why trust Oddspedia?

Oddspedia employs a diverse team of industry experts with decades of combined experience. We've been recognized for our efforts multiple times, including at the 2020 SBC Awards, where we took home the honor for Product Innovation.

TonyBet pros and cons

Where we think TonyBet excels Where we think TonyBet needs improvement
Betting markets: TonyBet offers some of the heftiest betting menus around. The average soccer menu will present you with over 4,000 options, if not more. Even a typical CFL menu will deliver close to 500 selections. Lower odds margins: Our main issue with TonyBet is the relatively high odds margins. For example, the average odds margin for NFL sides and totals is usually over 8%, while MLB sides and totals are pushing 6%.
Live betting: When it comes to live betting, TonyBet can easily be considered one of the best sportsbooks Alberta has to offer. No matter what event you're hoping to wager on, it's likely TonyBet will have odds ready and waiting.  No live streaming: As wonderful as TonyBet’s in-play betting section is, it would be even better if it offered live streams. Streaming is a valuable tool for live bettors and adds to the immersion of the overall wagering experience.
Promotions: TonyBet’s promotions page is always jam-packed with spectacular offers, including odds boosts, bettor tournaments, bet credits, and bonus cash offers. The sportsbook also has a VIP program, unlike many of its competitors.

4. BetVictor Sportsbook Alberta

Oddspedia opinion

BetVictor’s roots go back to its formation in 1946, making it one of the most established sportsbooks in the business. The BetVictor brand is also one of the most recognized names in sports betting and is known for offering sharp odds on a full range of sports and competitions. Plus, it delivers a solid selection of betting features like a bet builder and live streaming.

Who is BetVictor best for?

If you plan to do your Alberta sports betting online, BetVictor is the top choice for a no-nonsense sportsbook. While its design and layout aren't the most exciting to look at, the platform still provides a technically sound wagering experience.

“I love this app, as it's well laid out and simple to navigate around. BetVictor has some really decent promos and offers on too. I have had to contact customer support once because I was new to a few things, and they resolved my problem on the first contact. As far as phone-betting apps go, this is up there in my top two! Thank you, BetVictor!” — Google Play store reviewer

Why trust Oddspedia?

Trusted brands like DAZN and LaLigaTV have referenced Oddspedia's expert content for decades. We have placed more than 1,000 wagers with BetVictor alone, ensuring we can confidently recommend the sportsbook.

BetVictor pros and cons

Where we think BetVictor excels Where we think BetVictor needs improvement
Competitive odds: While there's the occasional high odds margin on BetVictor, they are generally low for most mainstream markets. For instance, sides and totals for most major sports often come in at under 5%. More promotions: BetVictor typically only has a couple of promotions on the go — significantly less than other top Alberta sportsbooks.
Live betting: BetVictor offers a top-notch live betting experience complete with competitive in-play odds, an abundance of betting markets, and streaming. ❌ More live streams: Yes, BetVictor offers live streaming, but it doesn’t stream as many events as some other sites. With about three dozen sports on the menu, we expect more from this section of the sportsbook. It does have NFL live streaming, though.
Fast payouts: BetVictor states that withdrawals are processed within 24 hours. In actuality, the sportsbook usually processes withdrawals within a couple of hours, if not faster.

5. PowerPlay Sportsbook Alberta

Oddspedia opinion

Launched in 2018, PowerPlay is one of the newer betting sites on this list of the top Alberta sportsbooks. What immediately stands out with PowerPlay is the mobile interface. It looks great, is easy to navigate, and is highly responsive on smartphones and tablets. In an era where betting on the go is everything, this makes PowerPlay worth your while.

Who is PowerPlay best for?

PowerPlay is best suited for newbies ready to learn the ropes. It has one of the more straightforward welcome bonuses, plenty of regular promotions, and a clean layout. Just keep in mind that while the odds are competitive, they usually aren’t quite as good as those at many other Alberta sports betting sites.

Why trust Oddspedia?

Major publications, such as CNN and CBS News, have long trusted Oddspedia to deliver honest and useful content. Additionally, we've logged many hours of wagering with PowerPlay, having placed over 1,000 combined bets with the site since 2018.

PowerPlay pros and cons

Where we think PowerPlay excels Where we think PowerPlay needs improvement
Mobile user experience: We found the app and browser-based platform to be more intuitive and better designed than most other mobile interfaces.  Odds quality: The odds margins at PowerPlay can be a bit steep. For instance, 1x2 odds for EPL soccer bets offer margins of over 7%, while tennis moneylines can exceed 10%.
Lots of bonus bet opportunities: PowerPlay’s promotions page may not be as impressive as some other competitors, but you can easily snag bonus money. For instance, you’ll receive a $20 bonus bet if you wager at least $100 on CFL games or tennis matches.  No live streaming: Despite an impressive in-play betting section, PowerPlay doesn't offer live streaming. Adding that feature would take the wagering experience to another level.
Reliability and reputation: Being licensed in multiple jurisdictions, including Ontario, is proof that PowerPlay strictly follows industry standards and can be trusted to treat you fairly.

How we rate Alberta sports betting sites

We consider a number of factors when rating and reviewing the best sportsbooks that Alberta has to offer. We won’t divulge every box on the checklist, but we will go over a few of the most important ones.

User experience

It should never take more than a few seconds to find a specific game and place your bet. The best Alberta sports betting sites are designed to be intuitive, responsive, and exceedingly simple to navigate.

Betting options

Having access to a plethora of betting markets means that you have more potentially profitable options to choose from. For example, while the top AB sports betting sites generally offer over 1,000 betting options for EPL soccer games, competitors may only provide 100 or fewer.

If you're looking to discover what betting options exist at the best NFL betting sitesNBA betting sites, and UFC betting sites in Canada, our exhaustive guides have you covered.

Competitive odds

Getting the best odds — whether they be NFL oddsNBA oddsMLB oddsNHL odds, or something else — is vital to any sports bettor’s success. Simply put, seizing those opportunities ensures that you make the most money off of your winning bets. Even if the variation is minimal, it can be the difference between making and losing funds in the long run.

Customer service

If you have a question or issue with your sportsbook, you want to be able to get answers quickly and easily. As such, we prefer Alberta sportsbooks that offer 24/7 support via live chat or a toll-free phone number. Email, FAQs, and social media can be helpful, too, but they aren’t quite as fast or convenient.

Reputation

When we rate and review AB sportsbooks, we pay close attention to their reputations. We scour sites like Trustpilot, the Google Play store, and the Apple App Store to find out what real customers have to say. We also examine the brand’s history to determine if it has been involved in any controversies.

Security

Sports betting in Alberta requires you to provide sensitive information. You need to be certain that those details are always secure. Therefore, we only recommend sportsbooks that use the latest security features like SSL encryption, fraud detection, firewalls, and other layers like 2-FA.
