Tips for winning our Monthly handicapper competition
Research and knowledge are the two essential requirements for winning this competition. Of course, variance always plays its part in sport so a sprinkling of luck will also be needed! Keeping a winning streak and selecting events where you believe you actually have an edge will put you in a good spot. Don't just chase high odds or pile on unites to try and climb the leaderboard.
It's also important not to panic or force your picks. Profit and loss will fluctuate for all handicappers so if you're not as high as you want to be on the leaderboard, don't rush it and submit picks you aren't confident in. Sometimes if you sit tight, others around you will fall away and you'll move up by default.
- Analyze Team Form and Chemistry: Review recent performances, team cohesion, and the manager’s tactics. Team form can change quickly, so identifying upward or downward trends can give you an advantage.
- Consider Home Advantage: Premier League teams often thrive at home, supported by passionate fans. Think about how the stadium atmosphere and travel fatigue might affect visiting teams.
- Watch Player Injuries: Key player injuries can shift the balance of a match. Assess the squad’s depth and how well they can cover absentees, as it may impact the team’s overall strategy.
- Review Head-to-Head Records: Look at previous matchups between teams. Some clubs consistently outperform others, even when form suggests otherwise, and rivalry games are always unpredictable.
- Stay Updated with Premier League News: Follow the latest news, from managerial changes to transfer updates. A last-minute injury or suspension can swing the odds in your favor.
- Use Stats and Analytics: Analyze advanced stats like expected goals (xG), possession, and player contributions to get a deeper understanding of a team’s strengths and weaknesses.
- Don’t Overdepend on Favorites: The Premier League is known for upsets, and even the top teams can have off days. Balance your predictions and consider betting on underdogs in the right scenarios.
- Be Patient and Strategic: Avoid emotional decisions, manage your bankroll carefully, and stick to your plan. Learn from any mistakes and adjust your strategy over time.
- Factor in Squad Rotation and Schedule Congestion: Teams with packed schedules, especially those in European competitions or domestic cups, may rotate players. This can influence the outcome, particularly if key players are rested.
- Account for Derby Matches: Local derbies and intense rivalries bring extra emotion. In these fixtures, form and stats often don’t matter as much, so expect surprises!
