India

As the host nation for the World Cup, India is determined to capitalise on its cricketing legacy and deliver a memorable performance. India's strength lies in its batting, with Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli leading the charge, complemented by a formidable spin-bowling lineup. Although injuries have posed challenges in the fast-bowling department, Jasprit Bumrah, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, and Mohammed Shami are expected to contribute if they regain fitness. India aims to use home advantage and passionate fan support to clinch the coveted World Cup title.

Australia

The Australian cricket team is renowned for its cricketing dominance and has consistently been a top contender in major tournaments. Their squad features a diverse mix of seasoned veterans and emerging talents, making them formidable. Australia boasts powerful batters and skilful bowlers. Thus reflecting their well-rounded approach to the game. With their unwavering determination and championship mindset, Australia is poised to make a strong bid for victory in the tournament.

England

The English cricket team is known for its meticulous and well-orchestrated gameplay. They have consistently demonstrated their cricketing prowess on the global stage. Top Players to Watch

Below is a brief profile of cricket players with impressive track records who we expect to impact the World Cup.

Virat Kohli (India)

Virat Kohli, widely regarded as one of the greatest ODI players ever debuted in August 2008 against Sri Lanka. After a period without a century, Kohli made a triumphant return with two centuries against Sri Lanka in December 2022. His ability to perform consistently under pressure and his determination have solidified his status as a legend of one-day international cricket. Kohli is a player to watch, and fans have high expectations for his performance.

Pat Cummins (Australia)

The 30-year-old Australian pacer Pat Cummins made his international cricket debut in October 2011. He has represented Australia in two World Cups, in 2015 and 2019, playing 12 matches and taking 19 wickets. Cummins is currently the captain of the Australian Test cricket team. He has shown exceptional bowling prowess, delivering match-winning performances in the past.

Rashid Khan ( Afghanistan)

Rashid Khan, the talented all-rounder, made his ODI debut in October 2015 against Zimbabwe. Known for his vast array of bowling variations, Rashid is considered one of the finest spinners in the game. He has featured in nine World Cup matches, scoring 416 runs and taking seven wickets. Rashid Khan's contributions have been pivotal in making Afghanistan a competitive team.

Babar Azam (Pakistan)

Steve Smith (Australia)

Steve Smith is undoubtedly a key player in the ODI World Cup. Despite experiencing several highs and lows in his cricketing career, he maintains an impressive average of 60 in Test matches and 45 in ODIs. Thus highlighting his ability to influence the course of a game in his favour at any given moment. Steve Smith's performances will undoubtedly be instrumental in Australia's pursuit of their sixth world title.

Qualification - Road to the 2023 ODI World Cup

The forthcoming World Cup will continue the tradition of featuring 10 participating teams. However, the path to qualification underwent a significant change. Revolving around the ICC Cricket World Cup Super League that unfolded between 2020 and 2023. Which superseded the reliance on ODI rankings. Out of the 13 teams in the Super League, the top eight earned automatic berths in the World Cup. The host nation, India, secured their place despite finishing fourth in the League.

In June and July of 2023, the bottom five teams from the Super League and the top five associate teams based on rankings engaged in the 2023 Cricket World Cup Qualifier. All are vying to qualify for the remaining two spots.

As the qualifying process unfolded, a significant alteration emerged in the composition of the tournament. Notably, former champions West Indies were absent for the first time, having failed to progress in the qualifiers after a loss to Scotland. Not only did full members Ireland and Zimbabwe miss out on qualification. However, three full-member teams who entered the knockout qualification stage could not secure spots. Only Sri Lanka advanced.

The pivotal final qualification spot was decided through an eliminator match between the Netherlands and Scotland. The Netherlands emerged victorious, securing the last berth in the competition's finals stage. This intriguing and challenging path to qualification has brought a diverse and competitive lineup of teams to the 2023 Cricket World Cup.

This 13th edition of the World Cup features 10 teams, all geared up for the ultimate cricket showdown. Here are the final table standings after the round-robin stage
