Sports odds are constantly on the move, but these special offers are a great way to give your bet an extra boost and earn yourself more profit if your bet wins.
Whether it’s an additional edge on your prop bets or getting some bonus bets for placing a wager on your predictions, it’s time to take advantage of the sportsbooks’ generosity.
What is an odds boost?
An odds boost is a type of promo where a sportsbook will increase the odds on a specific wager. These are usually curated by the sportsbook, so they will choose the specific bet that they will boost the odds for, and you can then choose whether you want to place a wager at the increased odds.
A typical odds boost will be the odds changing from +150 to +200 for a team to win or a player prop to hit. This means for your $10 wager, you will get an extra $10 profit if it wins ($20 at +150 returns $50, and $10 at +200 returns $60).
What is a profit boost?
Odds boost and profit boost are sometimes used interchangeably, but there is a slight difference between these two promos. Profit boosts are not tied to specific odds or wagers. Instead, it is a token that you, as a bettor, can apply to a bet of your choice. It will then boost the returns of your wager by a specified amount.
A typical profit boost might be 20% boost on your chosen wager. Now, if we use the example above ($20 on a +150 wager), that would give you the same extra $10 in profit.
However, if you applied this hypothetical profit boost token to a $20 wager on a parlay with odds of +5000, you would get an extra $200 in profit. This is because the bet would normally return $1,000 profit, and you would get 20% of that ($200) on top.
Both odds boosts and profit boosts will usually have a maximum bet limit allowed, typically between $5 and $50. This is because the inflated odds will impact their liability, and they have to protect themselves from huge losses.
When should you use an odds boost or profit boost?
Odds boosts and profit boosts are a really powerful tool for a bettor, providing you use them at the right time. The aim here for the sportsbook is to try and get more volume bet on a specific market (odds boosts) or get you to bet a bit more with them (profit boost). That said, if you think about when to use these offers and bet strategically, then the value is there for the taking.
If you were already going to place the bet and you’re now getting better odds, then obviously, it’s worth placing the wager. You should just be careful of slightly inflated odds being the main pull into placing a wager. Unless, of course, the odds are now big enough for you to think you’re getting good value.
