As a brand new online sportsbook launched in 17 states as of November 2023, ESPN BET is an exciting addition to the US online sports betting market. Through an agreement with PENN Entertainment, ESPN BET has taken over Barstool Sportsbook's offering in many states, which will be entirely rebranded as ESPN BET. In Michigan, the Michigan Gaming Control Board has granted ESPN BET the existing license previously held by Barstool, the previous partner of Greektown Casino in the state.

This burgeoning Michigan sports betting app, branded with the logo of the famous U.S. sports broadcaster, features 20+ sports to bet on and all the popular markets you can expect. Michigan bettors are already reporting positively on the user experience. Feedback has been especially positive regarding its status as one of the top NBA betting sites.

ESPN BET is the fresh face on the scene, so it's natural to expect a few adjustments along the way. But we can see those tweaks happening quickly as this brand-new sportsbook gains traction in Michigan and other states. It's an exciting time to be a part of this growing platform, and we're eager to see how they level up and enhance the betting experience.

Few names in gambling and hospitality hold more weight than Caesars Entertainment. With Caesars Sportsbook in Michigan and other states throughout the U.S., this extensive experience in the gambling industry has paid dividends based on the quality of the Caesars Sportsbook product. New customers can get going with an incredible $1,000 first bet offer when they use Caesars Sportsbook promo code OPBONUS1000.

Caesars Michigan Sportsbook doesn't just excel in sports variety, markets, and promos, but its rewards program for Michigan bettors is super generous. What's cool is that the rewards credits can be used both online and at Caesars retail spots across the country, making it innovative and extra rewarding for users.

Since the Lawful Internet Gaming Act made legal online sportsbooks in the U.S. a reality, Caesars Sportsbook has been a leader among online sports betting operators. Regarding the best Michigan betting apps, few sportsbooks can compare to Caesars, although we'd like to see a Daily Fantasy Sports product. Still, only two of the state's top legal sports betting sites can boast this added perk, making this a minor concern for this Turtle Creek Casino-partnered Michigan mobile betting stalwart.

Regarding sports gambling in the U.S., few names are as well known as FanDuel, renowned for its mobile sports betting app and Daily Fantasy Sports (DFS) offering. Many Michigan residents who are new to sports betting may already be familiar with its platform and aesthetic from its DFS product. The Michigan Gaming Control Board made betting with FanDuel in Michigan a reality by granting FanDuel (partnered with MotorCity Casino) a Michigan sports betting license to go live as soon as online sports betting was available in the state.

When you create your online sports betting account with FanDuel Michigan and place a $5 wager on any market, you will get $150 in bonus bets should your wager win. You do not have to use a FanDuel promo code to get the bonus. Once you've signed up, it will immediately become apparent that FanDuel is one of the most user-friendly online sportsbooks. The straightforward interface makes finding your favorite sports and getting your action down a breeze.

You can't help but love the rewards program they offer, but it just doesn't quite measure up to some of the other sportsbooks in the state. While ongoing promotions could use a little boost, they really hit the nail on the head with those amazing odds-boosted same-game parlays that Michigan bettors are sure to appreciate.

Besides Caesars, no other retail sports betting brand is more well-known than BetMGM. The sportsbook is licensed by the Michigan Gaming Control Board and partnered with the MGM Grand Detroit brick-and-mortar casino operation. Since its introduction into the Michigan sports betting market upon online sports betting becoming legal, BetMGM has established itself as one of the best Michigan online sportsbooks.

It all starts with its fantastic new-user promo: A bet $5, get $150 in bonus bets offer, which you can unlock using BetMGM bonus code ODDSBONUS. The rewards don't stop there, as sports bettors can anticipate some of the best ongoing promos you will find at Michigan's best betting sites. Plus, the loyalty program rivals that of Caesars Sportsbook, as can be expected from one of the most legendary hospitality brands in the history of the hotel and casino industry.

If you're a fan of college sports betting, then look no further than BetMGM Michigan, as it's a top spot for betting on college sports events (especially college football). Additionally, it's amazing to have a retail sports betting option to accompany the online gambling product with the same prestige as the MGM Grand Detroit.

BetRivers, one of Michigan's top online sports betting sites and run by reputable parent company Rush Street Interactive, has a partnership with the aptly named Little River Casino Resort. Among tribal casinos, this property features one of the best retail sportsbooks in the state, and BetRivers is also an excellent choice for legal online sports betting.

You can get started with BetRivers via a generous $500 second-chance bet offer. If you use the BetRivers bonus code ODDSPEDIA, you will unlock the maximum bonus and have your first wager insured (up to $500). If your bet doesn't win, you'll get $500 in bet credits back.

I've been particularly impressed with the sportsbook's NFL betting options — count BetRivers among the premier football betting sites — meaning if you are looking to get sports bets down on the Detroit Lions, you won't find many better platforms. You may find some supposedly independently written negative reviews of BetRivers throughout the internet, but these are frankly quite fishy and hard to trust based on our experience at Oddspedia.

It's a minor complaint, but we'd like to see a DFS product since only DraftKings and FanDuel offer this addition among Michigan legal online sportsbooks. Another minor gripe is that BetRivers is known to be quick to limit sharp sports bettors. Yet, regardless of which sports betting site you use, this can happen if you're in the top 1% of profitable sports bettors (so probably not a concern for most people).

Best Michigan sportsbook promos and bonuses

Now that we have a good overview of the best sites for online sports betting in Michigan, let's look at the good stuff: The top sportsbook promos and bonuses. Using the generous online sports betting promo offers below, try out the top sites for Michigan legal sports betting and see which operators best meet your needs. Without further ado, here are the top five according to Oddspedia's rankings:

Caesars Sportsbook Michigan promo

Regarding legal sports betting bonuses in Michigan, Caesars is among the most generous. With its $1,000 first bet with Caesars Michigan promo code OPBONUS1000, you can make your first wager and try out the sportsbook with insurance if it loses.

Here's the deal: Deposit money, bet up to $1,000, and if your bet loses, Caesars will match it in bonus bets. Just a heads up, you won't get a bonus if your bet wins, but that's pretty normal among the best Michigan sports betting sites.

FanDuel Michigan promo

For those who prefer a welcome bonus that does not require a significant investment for considerable gain, the FanDuel MI promo is among the best Michigan sportsbook promos. The MotorCity Casino partner and DFS stalwart provides a potential $150 in bonus bets for just a $5 wager.

Sign up using our exclusive links, deposit $10 or more, make a wager of $5, and you will get $150 in bonus bets if your first bet wins. That's it, it's that simple. If you don't want to place a large wager to receive your bonus, the FanDuel Michigan welcome bonus may be your best option to bet on sports online in the state.

BetMGM Michigan bonus

Regarding bonuses for sports betting in Michigan, the BetMGM welcome offer is similar to the FanDuel and DraftKings bonuses. It is a "bet and get" promo where you will earn $150 in bonus bets for a single $5 wager. Use the exclusive BetMGM Michigan bonus code from Oddspedia, ODDSBONUS, when you sign up for this leading Michigan sports betting operator partnered with the MGM Grand Detroit retail sports betting facility. Make an initial deposit and bet $5 on any market (parlays and same-game parlays also count). It doesn't matter if you win or lose that first bet; you will then be awarded $150 in bonus bets.

BetRivers Michigan bonus

Though not as famous a name in the Michigan online sports betting landscape as some of the top competitors we've listed, BetRivers holds its own when it comes to its welcome offer. This River Casino partner provides a $500 second-chance bet bonus using the BetRivers Michigan bonus code ODDSPEDIA.

Sign up and enter the provided bonus code for online betting, make a deposit, and wager up to $500 or more on your first bet to receive this Michigan sports betting bonus if that wager loses. This is the same type of offer that BetMGM and Caesars provide, and although it has a lower maximum reward, it is still nothing to scoff at.

DraftKings Michigan promo

Among sports betting sites in the state, DraftKings Sportsbook Michigan is another top option offering a similar sports betting sign-up bonus to the Caesars offer. This one is just as lucrative, as it gives you up to a $1,000 No Sweat First Bet should your qualifying wager lose.

At DraftKings, sign up for sports betting using our exclusive links; no DraftKings Michigan promo code is necessary to receive the bonus. Sports bettors must then place a wager of at least $1; if it loses, you'll get the stake back, up to $1,000, as a bonus bet.

How to choose the best Michigan betting site

Since there are so many options among the best Michigan sports betting sites, choosing which online sportsbooks to sign up for may be hard. Let's consider some key criteria when choosing a Michigan online sports betting site.

Strong welcome bonuses

It is helpful to get your bankroll rolling with some complimentary sportsbook cash. For this reason, choosing to sports bet at an operator that offers excellent welcome promotions is a smart decision. You might as well take advantage of as much sportsbook bonus money as possible to try out sportsbooks on their dime.

Excellent ongoing promos

It all starts with the welcome bonus at any Michigan sports betting site, but after that, you'll want to choose online sportsbooks with good ongoing promotions. These can include offers like odds boosts, parlay insurance, and more. It's best to pick a sportsbook that can maintain the excitement of the welcome bonus by offering further ongoing promotions.

Generous rewards programs

Since legislation has made sports betting legal in Michigan, many top reputable U.S. sportsbooks offer excellent loyalty rewards based on how much you bet on sports. You'll find superb loyalty rewards offerings at sites like DraftKings and Caesars, while the rewards programs at smaller operators such as Gun Lake Casino partner Play Gun Lake tend to be less robust.

Good betting variety

When looking to bet on sports, the number of sports and leagues available and the types of bets you can make is an important consideration. Choosing a sportsbook with a wide selection of betting options, including a good variety of same-game parlays, is a crucial factor when sports betting. Be sure to choose a sportsbook with all the sports and bet types you want to engage in.

Advantageous betting odds

Since the Amateur Sports Protection Act was overturned and legal sports betting was made a reality, much competition has arisen in the country's online and retail sportsbook industry. For this reason, choosing an online or brick-and-mortar operator that offers generally advantageous odds compared to the competition is crucial. Finding the best odds on any bet you want to make is the best way to give yourself a chance to succeed in sports betting.

You might wonder how we reached our conclusions regarding Michigan betting sites. Our experts consider a wide range of criteria to bring you only the best in Michigan sports betting. Among these factors are bonuses and promotions, banking options, odds, sports and bet types offered, customer service, and the ease of use of the platforms.

Ultimately, we've done the work, so you don't have to. You can count on the top Michigan online sportsbooks we recommend to bring you only the best in sports betting in the state. Why sign up to more than one Michigan sportsbook?

The question of why to sign up for more than one sportsbook is a standard inquiry and belongs in any Michigan sports betting FAQ. These sportsbook recommendations are not only intended to help you choose which single sportsbook to sign up for.

There are many good reasons to sign up for multiple sportsbooks, and all of our top choices are viable. Here, I will outline some key benefits of signing up for more than one sportsbook.

Odds shopping

Arguably, the number one reason to sign up for multiple sportsbooks is the ability to shop for the best odds whenever looking to place any single wager. Sportsbooks will differ slightly in the odds offered, and you want to get the best number to maximize your chance of long-term success. Consider the NFL odds you are receiving from differing sportsbooks next time you go to place a football wager.

Multiple bonuses

Since every relevant sportsbook in Michigan offers a welcome bonus, it makes sense to claim as many of these sign-up promos as you can. Sports betting is a game of tight margins, and claiming bonus bets is a great way to give yourself a better chance of doing well in sports betting.

It makes no sense to fail to claim as much bonus money as possible. Of course, assuming your efforts are within your ability to meet the requirements to claim bonuses. This practice enables you to bet on the sportsbook's dime, which can only help your prospects of success.

Comparing sportsbooks

Different sportsbooks will have varying qualities that may appeal more or less to each individual. Especially when there are sign-up bonuses to be claimed, it makes sense to try out a few sportsbooks and see which ones you prefer over others. You might like the app or user interface of one sportsbook over another or find more amenable banking options or loyalty programs depending on which sportsbook you choose.

Bet types available at Michigan sportsbooks

Especially if you are newer to sports betting, you might want information on what types of bets you can place at leading Michigan sportsbooks. Here, I'll outline the types of bets you will find.

Moneyline

The moneyline is the simplest way to bet on sports. Here, you bet on which team or athlete will win the game, with odds for each side based on its likelihood of success. An example would be the Kansas City Chiefs facing the Detroit Lions.

The Chiefs might have odds of -140, and the Lions might be at +120. You have to bet $140 on the Chiefs to win $100, while a $100 bet on the Lions will garner you $120 since they are the underdog.

Spreads

The point spread introduces a handicap to even the action. Using our same example, perhaps the Chiefs are -3 favorites, making the Lions +3 underdogs. Odds on either side will usually be around -110 for the NFL (bet $110, win $100).

This means that the Chiefs have to win by at least four to win a bet on Kansas City, while the Lions can lose by as much as two, and you still win your wager on Detroit. If exactly three points decide the game, both sides receive their money back in a "push."

Totals

Wagering on the total (Over/Under) involves placing a bet on whether a game will go Over or Under. The sportsbook will set the total points it expects in the game, for instance, 48 points in the Kansas City/Detroit matchup we've outlined.

If you bet the Over, you need 49 points or more to score to win your bet, whereas on the Under, you want 47 points or less to score. A score of exactly 48 will involve bettors on both the Over and Under receiving their money back in a "push". Like with spreads, NFL Overs and Unders usually come with around -110 odds.

Futures

A futures bet involves wagering on events that will occur down the line. An example would be betting on which NFL player will win the MVP award or MLB odds on which team will win the World Series. Futures bets are a fun way to have betting action over a long period, often with very long odds.

Props

With proposition bets (props), you bet on more minor outcomes within games, such as individual player statistics, team statistics, or game statistics. An example would be betting on how many total yards a running back will rush for in an NFL game or NBA odds set on the total three-pointers a player will shoot in a game.

Parlays

With parlays, you combine multiple betting selections into one bet slip. If every "leg" of the parlay wins, you'll receive a considerable payout based on how many selections you choose. If even one selection loses, you lose your entire wager.

There are slightly different versions of parlays offered by many sportsbooks. These include round robins and teasers. All of these types of bets follow the same general principle of combining more than one selection into one wager for increasing payouts.

Live betting

In-game or live betting involves wagering on an event that has already started. This can be betting on ever-shifting lines and odds affected by the current state of a sporting event.

Related but slightly different are first and second-half betting and even quarter-betting (period betting when it comes to NHL odds). These options are similar to live betting in that they involve betting on an event that has already started.

Who can bet on sports in Michigan?

You can wager on sports in Michigan if you are at least 21 years old and in the state. Bettors don't have to be residents of Michigan to bet as long as they are within state lines when placing their wagers. When creating your account, you must provide personal documentation to prove your age and identity.

What sports can I bet on in Michigan?

Upcoming sports betting launches

It would not be surprising to see more states legalize sports betting in the upcoming years. Let's take a look at a few of the most likely possibilities:

  • Legal North Carolina sportsbooks will be coming soon, likely in March 2024.
  • Though a ballot effort failed in 2022, if tribal gaming interests can reach agreements, it is possible that California sports betting could be legalized in the near future.
  • Though recent bills have failed, another attempt to legalize sports betting in Georgia will likely occur within the next few years.
  • Minnesota sports betting almost became a reality in 2023, and proponents plan to try again in 2024.
  • Many Missouri residents would like regulated sports betting, and we expect to see another attempt shortly.
  • In 2025, another attempt will likely occur to bring about legal Texas sportsbooks.
