Super Bowl 58 is behind us now, and we saw some massive bets being placed on both the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers. There’s still a long way to go before we know the matchup for Super Bowl 59, however we can already see money being laid down with 29.4% of the betting handle going on the Kansas City Chiefs to repeat. The Detroit Lions lead the betting handle for the NFC with 12.8%.

While the big money bets haven’t started to be published yet for the big game in 2025: Oddspedia Insights is the place to hear about them as and when they come in.

The Super Bowl 2024 in Las Vegas isn’t too far away now, and as per usual, it will be the biggest sports betting event on the calendar. With the NFL playoffs done and dusted, excitement is building as seasoned sports bettors plan to win big when the San Francisco 49ers and Kansas City Chiefs go head to head.

Futures lines and odds had been up all season at the best sportsbooks, meaning some of the biggest Super Bowl bets this year were placed well before the two competing teams were decided. But even bigger bets tend to be placed in the final days before the big game. Here, we will look at what we know and update you as more gargantuan bets are placed closer to the Super Bowl on Sunday, February 11.

Biggest Super Bowl 58 bets

The most intriguing Super Bowl bets will come in in the final few days, as the San Francisco 49ers and Kansas City Chiefs gear up for the Super Bowl. Meanwhile, the NFL odds available are stacked with variety, as you can make futures bets on who will win Super Bowl MVP, which players will score touchdowns, and various specials around the halftime show. However, we are monitoring the situation regarding the biggest Super Bowl bets in 2024. In doing so, we’ve seen that some exciting bets have already been placed for large sums of money.

  1. February 7 - $136,000 49ers Moneyline at -130: Caesars Sportsbook has seen some of the biggest bets on the San Francisco 49ers Moneyline - with this bet returning over $240,000 if it lands.
  2. February 6 - $200,000 on the KC Moneyline: The biggest bet to date on the Chiefs was placed at FanDuel Sportsbook when one bettor wagered $200,000 on Kansas City at +110.
  3. February 1 - Brock Purdy backed for potential $480,000 win: Caesars Sportsbook took a $200,000 bet on San Francisco 49ers’ quarterback Brock Purdy to be named Super Bowl MVP. At odds of +240, that would result in a massive $480,000 windfall.
  4. January 30 - $1m bet placed on 49ers: With 12 days to go until the big game, the first $1m bet was reported by Caesars Sportsbook. On Tuesday 30 January, a bettor backed the San Francisco 49ers to win the Super Bowl at moneyline odds of -120, a bet that would result in a hefty $1,833,333.33 payout.
  5. January 30 - Coin toss special! $195,238 potential win on tails: Not the biggest bet overall, but significant for a special prop bet, Caesars Sportsbook reported on 30 January that a bettor had placed $100,000 on the coin toss to be tails! At odds of -105, that means a win of $195,238.10 if it comes off.

$100,000 on the Cowboys to win $1.6 million

Earlier in the season, some big bets were placed on contenders who didn’t even make it to Super Bowl 58. Notably, a Michigan bettor at one of the best NFL sportsbooks in the US, Caesars Sportsbook, placed a wager for $100,000 on the Dallas Cowboys at +1600 odds early in the season. That possible $1.6 million payout bet was looking better as the season went on, and Dak Prescott and the Dallas Cowboys were third in the running at +850 on FanDuel Sportsbook at the turn of the year. Unfortunately, their hopes, and that of the ambitious bettor, fell by the wayside when the Green Bay Packers emerged victorious in the Wild Card round.

$100,000 on the Dolphins to win $1.3 million

Another notable wager to discuss occurred before the season started, with a Las Vegas bettor at the Aria putting $100,000 down on the Miami Dolphins to win it all at +1300. On top of it, the same bettor put $60,000 on Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa for NFL MVP. The Dolphins also fell at the Wild Card round – losing to the Kansas City Chiefs. Let’s look at a few more of the biggest Super Bowl bets we’ve seen so far this year.

$20,000 on the Raiders to win $800,000

A bettor placed a $20,000 wager at 40/1 odds on the Raiders before the 2023 season. This was a long-shot bet for a good reason, but there was some hope for the Raiders this year.

With the team led by QB Jimmy Garoppolo and talents like Davante Adams and Josh Jacobs on the roster, there could be worse football bets. Nonetheless, the Raiders floundered this year and failed to make it into the postseason, meaning this poor bettor’s 20K is down the drain.

$25,000 on the Chargers to win $625,000

It would appear that the bettor who placed this mega long shot wager put a lot of faith in star quarterback Justin Herbert, especially considering that the Chargers needed to go through the Chiefs to win their tough AFC West division. Despite looking somewhat promising heading into the year, once again, head coach Brandon Staley’s squad failed miserably in 2023; he has been fired, and this daring bettor is out 25K.

$10,000 on the Ravens to win $200,000

With the Baltimore Ravens at about +300 consensus to win the Super Bowl, this looks like an excellent preseason bet at +2000. Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens are well placed to win the whole thing despite losing star tight end Mark Andrews for much of the season, and this bettor is likely happy they stuck their neck out on this one – as it stands.

Biggest Super Bowl 57 bets

Let’s look at some of the biggest Super Bowl bets 2023 had to offer to get some idea of what we can expect as Super Bowl LVIII draws nearer. Last year’s Super Bowl, in which the Kansas City Chiefs beat the Philadelphia Eagles, took place on February 12. Here’s a timeline of the largest bets that made headlines when they were placed in the run-up:

  • January 31, 2023: Caesars Sportsbook announced that a bettor placed a $314,000 bet on the Chiefs +3.5 at -157. These were alternate odds, leading one to believe that the bettor must have done specific calculations to reach this bet placement. Ultimately, they didn’t need the points and could have done better betting on the Chiefs on the moneyline.
  • February 4, 2023: According to BetMGM, a bettor bet $1 million on the Eagles to win the game outright at odds of -125. This one did not go so well for said high-roller.
  • February 9, 2023: BetMGM stated that $1.25 million and $1 million wagers were placed on the Eagles to win the Super Bowl. This is in addition to a $500,000 wager on the opposing Chiefs.
  • February 12, 2023: BetMGM stated that a player bet $547,000 on the over 49.5 at -125 on the Eagles/Chiefs Super Bowl. It was a high-scoring affair, and this bettor must have been very happy they did. Reports stated that another bettor placed a wager on the over at 51/-110 for $550,000 at Caesars Sportsbook in Vegas, another winner in the barn-burner of a Super Bowl in which 71 points were scored.

Biggest Super Bowl bets of all time

While we are on the subject, let’s look at some of the biggest Super Bowl bets of all time, including some of the most significant wagers on the Super Bowl that have ever been placed.

  1. Bengals for $5 million: Possibly the most famous ever Super Bowl big bet was the one that Texas businessman Jim’ Mattress Mack’ McIngvale placed on the Cincinnati Bengals to win Super Bowl LVI through Caesars Sportsbook. This was tacked on to an existing $4.5 million bet, meaning he lost all of it when the Rams triumphed.
  2. Buccaneers for $3.46 million: The infamous Mattress Mack is also responsible for this one when, just the previous year, he wagered $3.46 million on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers against the Kansas City Chiefs. He easily won this one as the Tom Brady-led Buccaneers emerged victorious over the Chiefs with a $2.75 million payout for Mack – one of the biggest winning bets the Super Bowl has ever seen.
  3. A combined $1 million on SuperBowl LVII: Infamous high roller, the rapper Drake, placed $1 million in bets on Super Bowl LVII, most of which accounted for in his $700,000 wager on the Chiefs moneyline. The Chiefs won that game against the Eagles, lucky for Drake as he lost all his prop bets on the affair.

What bets did Drake place on Super Bowl 57?

Music superstar Drake notoriously bet huge money on the Super Bowl in 2023. In total he gambled $965,000 across seven different bets. His only win was on the Chiefs ML at EVEN odds. Luckily for him, that was also his biggest wager of $700,000, so he ended up $435,000 in profit despite losing his bets on Patrick Mahomes anytime TD at +400 ($50,000), Juju Smith-Schuster anytime TD at +275 ($50,000), Chiefs to win both halves at +450 ($50,000), Chiefs to win every quarter at +1300 ($30,000), Travis Kelce to win MVP at +1200 ($25,000) and any TE winning MVP at +900 ($60,000).

Drake gambled a total of $965,000 across seven different bets on Super Bowl 57 in 2023. His only win was on the Chiefs ML.

Which state bets the most on Super Bowl?

In a way, it’s quite apt that Super Bowl 58 is being hosted in Las Vegas because Nevada is the state where the most money is usually bet on the event. The “Mecca of sports betting” is full of high rollers who love to bet big when the Super Bowl comes around. New Jersey was overtaken for second place by New York for most money bet in 2023. With sports betting fairly new in the Empire State, and twice the population of its neighbour, this was always likely. Both Nevada and New Jersey – in particular Vegas and Atlantic City – are used to welcoming “gambling tourists” who will put some serious cash down for the NFL showpiece event. Those two states and New York will probably continue dominating the list of states who place the most Super Bowl bets and the biggest Super Bowl bets each season. But with more and more states legalizing gambling, who knows what the future holds.

Super Bowl 57 betting handle by state

  1. Nevada $152.3million
  2. New York $123.8million
  3. New Jersey $109.3million
  4. Pennsylvania $84.3million
  5. Colorado $37.9million
  6. New Hampshire $9.2million
  7. Montana $747,805

What could you buy if you won some of these big bets?

If the bettor who was set to win $1.6million if the Cowboys had gone all the way this year had landed their bet – they could have bought the sprawling Colonial-style property once lived in by Sandra Lee and Andrew Cuomo.

The person who placed $100,000 on the Dolphins for a potential $1.3 million victory, could have splashed out on THREE Ferrari 812 GTS sports cars.

And if the $800,000 win on the Raiders had come off, the bettor could have gone out and enjoyed 6,400 five-course meals at Yolan, Nashville – the No.1-rated restaurant in the USA.
