What Is The USFL?

The USFL was actually founded in 1982 and was active for just three years before its return in 2022. It’s a professional football league that rivals Dwayne Johnson’s XFL during the NFL offseason. It’s comprised of eight teams (the Birmingham Stallions, New Jersey Generals, New Orleans Breakers, Memphis Showboats, Philadelphia Stars, Houston Gamblers, Michigan Panthers, and Pittsburgh Maulers) who play a 10-game regular season. The schedule runs from April-June, culminating in the USFL championship.

The second USFL draft took place in February 2023, with teams primarily selecting NCAA division I college players. Rosters are also comprised of practice squad players from the NFL and former college pros. The USFL MVP from 2022, KaVontae Turpin, made the move to the NFL with the Dallas Cowboys following a successful career.

Rules are also slightly different in the USFL. Like the XFL, you’re allowed to make two forward passes behind the line of scrimmage, and the play clock is quicker. The USFL shaved five seconds off its play clock compared to the NFL to allow for more plays to be run.

How To Bet On The USFL

Like the NFL and XFL, the USFL has most of the markets you need as a bettor. Although it is very limited for player props, all of the industry-leading sportsbooks will cover the basics (USFL moneyline, USFL spreads, USFL totals), as you see below.

USFL Moneyline

The moneyline refers to a straight up wager on a team you believe will win. Simply place your bet on a side, and if they win – so do your pockets!

USFL Spreads

Spreads are a little more complicated than your traditional moneyline wager, but are one of the most popular forms of betting on football. For example: if the New Jersey Generals are favored by 7.5 points against the Michigan Panthers, they will have to win the game by at least eight points. On the other end, if you think the Panthers will cover the spread, you can win your wager if Michigan wins outright or loses by less than eight. The spread allows you to bet on a handicap within the game.

USFL Totals

The over/under, or total, is another popular option among bettors when it comes to the USFL. Here, you’ll wager on whether or not a given game will go over or under a certain number. For example: if the number is set at 53.5 for a game between the Houston Gamblers and the Pittsburgh Maulers, you will have to wager on whether or not the combined score between the two teams will go over or under that total. If you place a bet on the over, the combined score has to add up to 54 or more; if you wager on the under, the score has to sit at 53 or lower at the end of the game.

Best USFL Betting Sites

If you are looking for the best USFL betting sites to wager your money – we have you covered at Oddspedia. When it comes to the USFL betting experience, DraftKings is the top betting site to wager. Its USFL futures odds are already posted compared to the other top sportsbooks in the country who have yet to offer lines. Once the season kicks off, DraftKings, along with FanDuel, Caesars, BetMGM, and BetRivers will lead the way in terms of USFL odds and number of markets.
